Paycheck

In the short story “Paycheck”, Jennings is trying to escape from the Security Police and blackmail Rethrick Construction at the same time by using the seven little items Jennings from the past had saved for Jennings in the present to use. This science fiction story gives a sense of wonder. The reader wonders whether or not the plan that Jennings is following will be successful at the end and we wonder how the scoop really works, if it does look into the future and predict the correct events that will happen. Throughout the story the reader faces a great deal of suspense and I believe that is why this story is a great science fiction story. I was kept wondering throughout the story and at the very end when Kelly reveals her true identity as the daughter of Rethrick and a claw dropped and took the paper away from Kelly I was shocked and it made me question what is the claw, how did Jennings know that the claw will appear, and what will happens after the story ended. The “what ifs” I asked myself and the questions that were not answered by the story made me question reality and the future. Will there be advance technology that can see into the future? Can a human’s memory really be burned away and forgotten forever?
