Fair Game touches upon the subject of what one's purpose in life is. Most humans would like to believe that they have a higher purpose in life; a common one being to serve a higher deity and/or reincarnation. Most would also be discouraged to hear that humans as a race is nothing more than game and dinner for another, greater race. Learning this would greatly diminish the value of life and one's accomplishments, which may actually be part of the author's purpose. He introduces a character that is obviously self-centered, and ends up having him be dinner for the aliens. This can be interpreted as a bash on those who think that they are better than those around them, the haughty ones. In the end, all he ended up to be was game for aliens; he was as important as deer is to hunters. This novel may serve to be a reminder of how vast the universe is, and how inappropriate it is for mere humans to have god complexes.
