Paycheck and Science Fiction

"Paycheck" is my favorite short story out of the collection that we've read. "Paycheck" is science fiction piece because it brings upon the "what if" questions throughout the text. What if the past Jennings hadn't packed the trinkets for the future Jennings? What if Jennings had gotten caught by the SP when he was escaping? What if Kelly decided not to help Jennings? Through all these "what if" questions, everything still works out perfectly for Jennings and he ends up with what he wants. One of the elements of a science fiction story is the fact that everything plays out for a reason and usually protagonist wins in the end. While I was reading this short story, I was always kept at the edge of my seat because Jennings was always so close to being caught by people but eventually he gets away. The story is very suspenseful because it makes the reader wonder if Jennings will reach his dream and you want to go through the experience with him. It seems like in all of these science fiction stories that we have read, there is always something in the end that happens whether it be a supernatural event or a twist. There was always something that the reader didn't expect and is surprised at how it happens. Overall, these science fiction stories are really fun to read because they were short, interesting and suspenseful.
