Throughout, The Haunting of Hill House, there are various repetitions. The first and last paragraphs of the novel are completely the same. It draws attention to the cyclical nature of the house and the implication that strange events will keep on recurring. Another thing, that I noticed was that towards the end Eleanor connected with house and saw it sort of as a home. Even though she was afraid of being alone, it seems as if she constantly sought out to be alone in all of her fancies. She is the only character that we get the first point of view from and she doesn’t seem to be a reliable source. She cannot distinguish her fancies from her reality and most likely let her mom die.
