The Haunting of Hill House seemed elegantly creepy. It wasn't like the horror stories you read or watch today with disfigured faces yawning in a grotesque disfigurement, or outright knowing of what it is that’s going on in the story. It’s more than just the sanity of the members in the house however; the omniscient attitude of Mrs. Dubly, the fact that all the people in the house are experiencing it, gives the sense that something not in this world is going on. But what’s beautiful about this story is that it’s so subtle and so ill explained that the reader doesn't know if the members in the house are going to be okay or not. Is something hunting them? Is something trying to use their energy to continue powering the house? It seems to have drawn Eleanor into itself, to keep forever, someone so vulnerable and innocent to the world she missed out on and was locked away. The Haunting of Hill House is a graceful and subtle ghost story that needs to be remembered .
