Journeys end in lovers meeting is a phrase that is repeated over and over again as mentioned in lecture. At first, this phrase came off as random and confusing. Eleanor says is when she arrives at the house and multiple times during odd events while in the house. It seems right off the bat that she was a little unstable with her frequent thoughts of the phrase “journeys end in lovers meeting.” In the end when she is forced to leave the Hill House because of her radical behavior. She commits suicide, that’s when it all makes sense. The journey does not end until Eleanor has met her lover. In a sense, Hill House was the lover that she was destined to find. She had finally found her soulmate, a place where she had belonged. No where was Eleanor ever wanted but the Hill House, or she believed. That house was a comfort zone for her, and when taken from her hands, she felt as though there was nothing left for her. She had no home to go to, her apartment did not exist, and she had stolen her sister’s car of whom did not even care about her well being. When getting removed fro the house, she no had purpose in life. Therefore after meeting her lover and killing herself, Eleanor’s journey ends there.
