The Rats in the Walls
I felt
that this one had more of a supernatural feel to it than the other stories we
read with it. The questioning about why
other individuals were not hearing the rats that he was, since the cats were
hearing it too made it more believable that they were there, gave it a creepy
vibe. For one, no one wants to have rats
in their house and two, the history about the house with rats made it
creepy. I also thought that it was interesting
how Tartarus was thrown into the story and the fact that it was under the main
characters house. The way that the main
character and his group just accepted the fact that what they were seeing under
his house was real made it more supernatural.
I also found it interesting that most of the members in the group were
able to get back out of this place that was likened to Tartarus, with the
exception of Captain Norrys, and the fact that both the main character and
Thorton appeared to have lost their minds. Tartarus is suppose to be part of the underworld which is a place where once you enter, you can never leave. I think that it could have been seen as how those two were still stuck in
Tartarus.
